Donald Trump India Visit LIVE News Updates: US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will soon head to the Taj Mahal. Addressing the Namaste Trump event earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said history is being scripted at the Motera stadium. “Five months ago, I started my journey with Howdy Modi. And today, my great friend Trump has started his journey in India in Ahmedabad with ‘Namaste Trump’.

After the long journey, Trumps made their way to the Sabarmati Ashram,” said Modi, while welcoming them to the “biggest democracy in the world.” He also made the crowd chant ‘long live India-US friendship.’

While addressing the “Namaste Trump” event, US President Donald Trump said, “America loves India, America respects India and America will always be a faithful and loyal friend to the Indian people.” He also said that PM Modi started off as a humble ‘chaiwala’; he worked at cafeteria and is a shining example that Indians can achieve anything. “Extreme poverty in your country will be eliminated in the next 10 years. India and US have a natural and enduring friendship. There is a difference between nation that rises by coercion and one that rises by setting people free that is India,” Trump added.

Earlier today, US President and his wife Melania tried their hands at spinning the ‘charkha’ (spinning wheel) at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. Accompanied by PM Narendra Modi, the US president and his wife went around the Ashram, before resuming the roadshow from the airport to the Motera stadium. Donald Trump and Melania Trump were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. After a quick handshake and a hug, Modi introduced the Trumps to the welcoming party at the airport. This is Trump’s first visit to India since he assumed office.
