What is the difference between 2D and 3D animation
3D Animation
3D Animation is the process of generating three-dimensional moving images in the digital environment. It is a type of animation that uses computer generated images to create animated scenes. Manipulation of 3D models or objects is carried out within the 3D software for exporting image sequences giving them the illusion of movement and animation. However, this is entirely based on the technique used for manipulating the objects. There is a difference between 3D and 2D animation.
The procedure of generating 3D is sequentially categorised into three main sections, and these are modelling, layout and animation and rendering.
Modelling is the phase that describes the procedure of generating 3D objects within a certain scene.
Layout and Animation phase describes that the process followed for animating and positioning the objects within a certain scene.
Rendering described the result or output of completed computer graphics. The process of production is completed with the careful combination of the sections mentioned above and also some other sub-sections.
The market is filled with various software used for the creation of 3D Animation.
Though 3D animation offers several advantages over 2D animation, most users prefer a combination of both the animation techniques. A mix of both 3D and 2D animation gives a more natural presentation. 2D animation techniques are more suitable for users having low budgets.
2D Animation
2D animation is the process of generating in a two-dimensional artistic space. 2D animation focuses on creating storyboards, characters, and backgrounds in two-dimensional environments. Usually thought of as traditional animation, the figures can move up and down, left, and right.
The 2D animation uses vector graphics and bitmap to create and edit the animated images and is created using the computers and software programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Flash and After Effects. There is a difference between 3D and 2D animation.
These animations used in films, advertisements, television shows, computer games, or websites. Work in the field of 2D animation requires both creativity and technological skills.
Difference between 2D and 3D animation
2D
1 – 2D Animation is an acronym for two dimensional.
2 – 2D Animation is a flat animation and comprises of only X axis and Y axis. X and Y refer horizontal and vertical (X and Y) dimensions respectively.
3 – It refers to creation of moving pictures using 3D digital environment.
4 – 2D animation works on onion tool kits.
5 – 2D animation consists of frames and carries no realistic feather in them.
6 – 2D animation EVERYTHING is drawn.
7 – “Moving the camera” in 2D means drawing everything from another angle.
8 – 2D Animation Examples:
- Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck.
- Snow White, The Jungle Book, The Little
- Mermaid.
- The Simpsons
- South Park
9 – Sectors where 2D animation is widely used are 2D animated movies, television advertisements, cartoons, films, video games, engineering demos, websites, e-learning and many more.
10 – Adobe After Effects, Adobe Flash Professional, Motion, Toon Boom, and Anime Studio are some of commonly used software used to create 2D animation.
3D
1 – 3D Animation is an acronym for three dimensional.
2 – 3D animation comprises of X axis, Y axis and Z axis. X, Y and Z refer to height, width and depth respectively.
3 – It refers to the creation and modification of moving pictures/figures on computers in a two-dimensional environment.
4 – 3D animation ruses digital modeling and rendering.
5 – 3D animation comprises of movements and carries realistic appeal in them.
6 – 3D objects, once modeled, can be treated almost as a physical object.
7 – “Moving the camera” in 3D is simply dragging it to another position to see if you like it better.
8 – 3D Animation Examples:
- Toy Story
- Shrek
- The Incredibles
- Jurassic Park (Dinosaurs)
- The Transformers (Robots)
9 – Sectors where 3D animation is widely used are Architecture, Medical, and Aerospace, Engineering, biotechnology, gaming industry, movies and many more. –
10 – Autodesk 3Ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, Houdini, ZBrush, and Blender are some of commonly used software used to create 3D animation.
What We Do?
We create the scenario of the video based on the client’s business and target audience. Our team of animators and writers will present the concept and the initial script for the video.
The final video will be created based on the approved storyboard and script.
